a blog about (my) work ⚒️
My name is John. I made this blog to explore my business, work, and job needs and wants, as well as those of my clients and organizations I work with. Also, I believe there are others like me who can benefit from my questions, ideas, problems, solutions, setbacks, and overall experiences.
I think, prototype, and develop in public. Some of the the articles are drafts or unedited👇🏽
As a passionate content creator, I often find myself reflecting on the terms we use to describe our online platforms. Whether I refer to my space as a "weblog," "blog," or "web log," the essence remains the same—a personal, chronologically updated journal on the internet. Each term carries its own connotations; "weblog" feels more formal and historical, while "blog" resonates with modernity and casualness. I appreciate the evolution of this medium and how it connects us in an informal, conversational way. Join me as I explore the subtle differences and similarities between these terms, and how they shape our understanding of online content creation.
In this article, I conduct a thorough audit of my current application stack, examining each app I use for various projects, brands, and channels. My goal is to understand the benefits, costs, and overall value of these applications, allowing me to identify areas where I can cut expenses and enhance productivity. From email and document management tools to graphic design and social media platforms, I evaluate how each app serves my needs, even if some come with high costs and low benefits. This ongoing process helps me streamline my operations and make informed decisions about the tools I choose to support my work. Join me as I share insights into my app usage and the adjustments I plan to make in the future.
As I navigate my transition from a restaurant professional to a freelancer providing services to both restaurants and tech companies, I find myself reflecting on the journey I've undertaken. The past two years have been a whirlwind of emotions—fun, challenging, and sometimes scary—but each experience has contributed to my growth. I'm currently on a quest to identify where I fit in the tech and startup world, whether as an employee, founder, or freelancer. I've come to believe that the soft skills honed in the restaurant industry offer real value in our increasingly tech-focused environment. To better understand my strengths and areas for improvement, I’ve started a skill assessment, ranking my abilities from novice to amateur. I’m excited to share this journey as a form of expression but also a place to be accountable.
